How - Face

Black lipstick yes… but gloss?

styleblackcolour-beauty-72I love the black lips look - love it, it looks amazing - strong and striking. Sure, you couldn’t exactly wear this to any old work place, or mooching about at home but you could if you were going out with the girls - oh yes, in fact you should.

Despite my growing admiration for the lip noire, I don’t yet, own a black lipstick but what I do have is black gloss - M.A.C Glimmerglass in Blackware, $NZ48, for instance. So I smeared this across my lips and it didn’t quite work. On it’s own it is too sheer, it doesn’t seem to provide enough coverage for a full black look. It just seemed to be lacking something. So I asked senior M.A.C artist Amber D how to wear this gorgeous gloss.

‘The Blackware Glimmerglass, which is a sheerer and creamier black gloss, is great used over any dark lipstick to add shine,’ she explains. ‘Or I love it on its own over a softer shade of lipstick like the Viva Glam II. Wearing it over a light lipstick will create a slightly lavender tone to the lip which looks amazing paired with a warmer face - peaches and goldens on the cheeks and eyes!’

There are two other Glimmerglass products from the Style Black collection (Blingblack, Blackfire), both have pearlized pigments that work in a similar way.

‘We have been obsessing over wearing these over bright lipsticks - particularly the Blackfire (sheer black with a pinkish, purple reflect). Blackfire over a lipstick like Snob or Russian red looks incredible,’ continues Amber. ‘Today I am wearing it over Snob lipstick, Tatum’s wearing Blingback (sheer black with golden reflect) over Viva Glam II and Zoe’s wearing Blackfire on a nude lip (like I said, we are obsessed!).

For an even more rock n roll, on trend look, Amber suggests slicking Glimmerglass across eyelids for a glistening glossy eye, think Preen, Donna Karan, Balmain and Antonio Berradi’s runway shows earlier this year!

This collection is limited edition and will be on counter for another four weeks only.
