How - Face

NYFW Alexander WANG

00270mHe’s definitely one to watch and Alexander Wang never disappoints. Although having said that, if you read some of the reviews of this collection there are doubts about the commercialness of his velvet pieces and some complaints that perhaps he hasn’t quite stepped up to the mark. While I’m not a big fan of wearing mid riff suits in winter, I do love his work.

That aside - I’m not going to review or critique fashion - the hair and makeup was once again excellent. Thanks Mr Wang for being reliable in that department.

Last season Alex sent models tromping along the catwalk with one of the MUST-DO hairstyles - the side plait. A look that I have copied and that I must say works extremely well when you prepare the hair with a beach style product beforehand (current personal fave is ghd and Kevin Murphy equal).

00380mThis time round it was a crinkle-side part with a whole lot of slick. Like a lot. Like almost what you’d think was a bad hair day and might reach for the dry shampoo to rectify but Sir Wang suggests otherwise. Obviously a less greased version - a more sidewalk than runway interpretation of this look would be entirely wearable. But it’s still pretty cool.

The makeup was keyed by Diane Kendal who said, ‘It’s early 90s Kate Moss, all about fresh skin and a reddish brown, gorgeous eye.’

She achieved this look by using MAC Pro Cream colour base in mid-tone sepia and paint stick in deep brown, blended together and applied to the lid and under the eye. She dabbed Studio Finish Skin Corrector in Terracotta into the crease of the eyelid and under the lower lash line and then topped with Gloss Texture over the lid. The finishing touch? Lining the upper lash line and the outer corner of the eye with Chromaline Black. Lips left bare. Skin as bare as possible with only MAC select moisturecover concealor applied where needed. Gorgeous.

What do you think? Ready for a full chocolate eye?
