hair care for less

Each product in the Clairol Herbal Essences range is infused with the delicious smell of a fruit and in Dangerously Straight it is Honeyed Pear (combined with silk extract which I think is a fancy name for silicone – not a bad thing either by the way). It makes me think of a cheese platter served with wine. Yum.
The Dangerously Straight products are for those of us, and I know there are many, who wage war with frizzy hair by wielding hot styling tools and forcing it into smooth submission. Some of us do this daily, which is good for the soul, but not so good for hair. Especially if done on hair that isn’t protected with the right products. You must, never ever, use straighteners without a heat styling product – ever. To do so will cause irreparable damage because today’s heat styling tools are REALLY hot. Like nasty-scar-leaving-scorched-skin burning hot. You need to coat the hair shaft with a product that will provide a protective layer and seal moisture in. When it comes to styling products, this is one time when you should listen to stylists at the salon and trust that they are not just trying to up sell. To get the best out of your hair cut and colour you must maintain it and to do that doesn’t have to cost a fortune. You can spend a lot if you want, but if you don’t want to there are some really good products at the supermarket – like this one: the Clairol Herbal Essences Dangerously Straight Leave In Treatment, $NZ8.49. After washing hair with its sister products – the Dangerously Straight Shampoo and Conditioner, $NZ6.59 each, apply a small amount of the treatment into towel dried hair working mostly through the ends. Blowdry as thoroughly as possible and then section hair into small parts and slide the straighteners through. If desired, rub a little more treatment through ends to stop fly-aways. Job done. Result? Sexy, shiney, happy (straight!) hair!
