Keep that hair colour

pureology-groupNow is possibly the worst time (or maybe the best) to trial hair products as after pregnancy mine is in the worst condition it has ever been. Plus it’s falling out like you wouldn’t believe (when does that stop?). So I was cautious about how effective I’d find the recently released Pureology range.

Pureology is new to New Zealand but not in America where it was created by Jim Markham in 2001 and is the first zero-sulphate, 100 per cent vegan hair colour care range. What this means is that it has no sulphate - a detergent commonly found in shampoo and conditioners that, according to a study, can cause skin irritation. Sulphates have also been blamed for leaching hair of moisture and causing dye to fade more quickly. The no-sulphate thing has become popular lately with other brands following suit, keep an eye out for other me-toos. It also contains organic botanicals making this a very green product. But does it work?

I used the Volume System, which possibly wasn’t the most suited, I think I would have needed the Hydrate System (there is a third called Essential System). At first I was using it wrong - I shampooed, conditioned and then added the masque at every wash which was about every two days. I should have been using the masque in place of the conditioner once a week. Once I got that sorted my hair started to behave. The products come with a handy wide toothed comb, which is perfect for using while wet to detangle knots. I liked it - I liked the smell of it and I really liked that I was using something natural and it seemed to help my particularly distressed hair. But was it saving my colour? To be honest, I wasn’t sure, I noticed that I still liked my colour (a good thing) but was it fading faster than usual? I hadn’t really thought about it. It wasn’t until a friend asked if I’d had my hair lightened that I realized that yes, it must be working, because I am well overdue a visit to my stylist.

Hey, I think paying $40 for a shampoo is crazy! I used Gardiner color last and kept my color for 2 months! Can you test other cheap hair products please so I know what one is best on the cheap side.
