We woke up to a BEAUTIFUL day, perfect weather for a picnic by the beach. Then the phone rang. It was the Parks people warning me that Long Bay Reserve, where I’d booked and paid for a picnic spot for the party, was closed due to the impending Tsunami warning created by the earthquake in Chile. Closed until further notice.

My preparation for my daughter’s first birthday is probably way over the top but it is one of those ‘once in a lifetime events’. That’s what I keep telling myself. Truth is, she’ll never remember it but it’s not really about her, is it?

I love Twitter. Love it. I love reading other people’s tweets and I love the conversations I have with people who I wouldn’t normally be able to converse with. I love getting the news feeds from newspapers, bloggers and websites with updated posts and stories. I always hear world news first on Twitter, than before I read it online or see it on TV. If you were going to ask a question to the world right now - what would it be?

While I’ve been lying on the couch groveling I have had the pleasure of perusing some magazines - Cleo and Next. Do you buy the Cleo each month to read the beauty panel? In it you’ll see what I, Amber Peebles and Michiko Hughes think of various products.
I’m also enjoying the new-look Next - if it can pull it’s pages to the level of Marie Claire or Madison then it will quickly become one of my must-have monthly purchases. I LOVE those Aussie magazines but there’s nothing like Kiwi fodder. What do you think? Which magazines do you buy regularly and why?

Something I would like to do more of this year is give back or pay it forward as some call it. I’d like to help others and I need your help. Once a month I will send out a Wednesday Wish and will ask you to nominate someone who needs a lift. Maybe they need a new haircut? Some makeup advice? A massage? Once a month you’ll get to help out a good friend and put them forward for a beauty treat and I’ll find the perfect person to help them.

I love watching actresses strut their stuff down a red carpet but I have to say, it’s becoming less and less an indicator of fashion the only thing worthwhile noting is the hair and makeup and at this year’s Golden Globes there are two distinct looks that win in my books: sleek back or long with loose curls.

As this working year slides frighteningly fast toward the end, I’ve been thinking a lot about what this year has meant for me - as I’m sure we all have. But it’s not just the end of another 12 months - it’s also the end of a pretty crazy decade.

This morning I am playing hair and makeup with my good friend Stephie who is off to the premiere of Lovely Bones. She worked on the film so it’s going to be a great night for her.

Here’s something I wouldn’t normally do - post a photo of my face sans makeup to reveal my blemishes and wrinkles. But, I’m doing it for a very good reason - I’m working on eliminating these problems with a series of microdermabrasion and a new skincare regime.

haven’t read the books and I’ve only just watched the first movie (before seeing New Moon tonight) so I’m quite behind on the whole Twilight thing. But it’s pretty bloody hard not to miss it. Whoever is doing the PR for the movie, is doing a splendid job. I guess it doesn’t hurt that the stars are cute, the story gripping and it’s a new genre for us to sink our teeth into (take that wizards). Are you into it? Why do you think it’s so popular?
